'HMS Duncan' D37 Pier Head 23rd June 2016
Forward view of 'HMS Duncan'. The forward gun is a standard MK8 4.5" shell mainly for naval gunfire support. Behind is the 48 cell silo for Aster missiles, the vessels main anti air armament. Just in front of the bridge are 8 Harpoon surface missile launchers however on this day there were no missiles carried. The amount of missiles carried by the ship depends upon her deployment. When the ships were built they carry a space for the Mk41 vertical launch system which is between the main gun and Aster missile silo. This system is deployed on most USN surface warships and has the advantage of carrying land attack missiles as well as anti submarine missiles. Although budget constraints currently prohibit these being installed.
